A Meade County man has been arrested and charged with the murder of a Vine Grove woman.

On Wednesday afternoon, 29-year-old Denny C. Rumfelt, also of Vine Grove, was arrested by the Meade County Sheriff’s Office and charged with murder (domestic violence), tampering with physical evidence and abuse of a corpse.

He is accused of killing 26-year-old Meaghan Dunn. The victim had duct tape wrapped around her mouth and eyes when she was found in a sleeping bag in the floorboard of Rumfelt’s GMC Sierra truck. The truck was parked next to the suspect’s home.

Police were alerted to the murder after Rumfelt told his parents and brother that he had killed a woman, according to media reports.

Rumfelt was covered in blood when arrested, the arrest citation states, according to a report by The News-Enterprise. Additionally, he had the same color duct tape found on the victim on his lower left forearm, the newspaper reports. The duct tape was used to keep a bandage in place. He required four stitches.

Dunn was a graduate of the prestigious Gatton Academy as well as the University of Kentucky, and was a champion archer, according to her obituary.

No cause of death has been released.

Rumfelt is being held in the Meade County Detention Center.
