Grayson County Fiscal Court on Tuesday voted to remit final payment to the city of Leitchfield for the purchase of the old Leitchfield Police Department headquarters and the apartment complex behind the old headquarters.

On June 6, Grayson County Fiscal Court approved the purchase of the old LPD headquarters at 117 South Main Street. Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson said at the time the county will purchase the building for $250,000, with a $50,000 payment made by June 30, 2021, followed by two $100,000 payments in June 2022 and June 2023.

But with county receiving funds from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA), Fiscal Court approved paying the balance of $202,033.08 to Leitchfield, which finalizes the purchase of the old police department headquarters.

Additionally, the court approved paying $150,000 in ARPA funds to purchase the apartment building behind the old police headquarters.

The county plans to move the Grayson Co. Sheriff’s Office from its current location on the Leitchfield Town Square to the old LPD building. Henderson noted that a drive-thru will be added to the building, allowing residents to pay property taxes more conveniently.

Parking space will also be expanded from its current single-digit number of spaces.

The current Grayson Co. Sheriff’s Office headquarters will be sold, as Henderson said Sheriff Norman Chaffins has already fielded purchase inquiries.

Sheriff’s office to sell surplus vehicles

Sheriff Norman Chaffins was granted approval by the court to sell two vehicles as surplus property on govdeals.com; a 2008 Dodge Charger and a 2004 Ford Taurus.

A third vehicle, a 2015 Dodge Charger, will be sold to the Cloverport Police Department for $7,300, Chaffins said.
