The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office and a Grayson County Constable traveled to Marshall County to assist local law enforcement with patrolling areas that were damaged by the most catastrophic tornado system to ever strike the commonwealth.
Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Clay Boone and Deputy Caleb Owens along with Constable Mark Stanton traveled to Marshall County Saturday night and again on Sunday. The Grayson County law enforcement volunteers went to Marshall County outside of their regular shifts, essentially on their off time.
“It is very simple,” Sheriff Norman Chaffins said. “We pray that it NEVER happens here. But I know that without a doubt that if a tragedy like that were to ever occur in our county, we would have every law enforcement resource available to us within minutes. Every deputy that we have has a servant’s heart. This is why we do this job; to help our fellow man, even beyond the borders of Grayson County.”
Much of the damage in Marshall County was near Moors Camp Highway and Sherwood Shores, near Benton, the county seat of Marshall County.
Homes, businesses and vehicles were destroyed or heavily damaged. Power lines and trees were also destroyed.
Additionally, heavily damaged was one of the two North Marshall Water District plants, according to WPSD.com. The water district was limited to 50 percent capacity until Sunday morning.
