The death of an infant has raised the death toll from the tornadoes that struck the commonwealth earlier this month.
Gov. Andy Beshear said on Monday that an infant from Graves County has passed away after suffering injuries during the tornado event on December 10 and 11. The statewide death toll now stands at 77, breaking the record for the most tornado-related deaths set in 1890 by a series of tornadoes in Jefferson County.
Amendment to Emergency Declaration
Marion County has been added to the disaster declaration for individual assistance and public assistance, bringing the total to 16 counties. This means that residents in Marion County can now apply for Federal Emergency Management Agency assistance.
More than 11,4000 people register for disaster assistance
The governor said there has been significant progress getting people who have been impacted by the storms registered for assistance. Already, there are more than 11,400 validated registrants with over $4.7 million approved.
FEMA is currently operating mobile registration centers in the following counties: Christian, Graves, Hart, Hickman, Hopkins, Logan, Lyon, Muhlenberg and Ohio.
