A western Kentucky woman has been arrested for her role in the U.S. Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.

Shelly Stallings, 42, of Morganfield, was charged with multiple federal offenses, including assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers using a dangerous weapon, civil disorder, and entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon, among other charges.

Stallings and Markus Maly, 47, of Fincastle, Virginia, were named as additional defendants in a superseding indictment returned in the District of Columbia in a case that previously included two other defendants: Stalling’s husband, Peter J. Schwartz, 48, and Jeffrey Brown, 55, of Santa Ana, California.

All four defendants are accused of spraying a chemical irritant (pepper spray) at a line of police officers attempting to secure the area of the Lower West Terrace of the Capitol Building, prosecutors said.

Maly, Schwartz, and Brown previously pled not guilty to the charges.

Stallings is not the first person from Union County to be arrested for storming the Capitol.

In October of last year, Lori and Thomas Vinson pled guilty to violent entry and disorderly conduct. They were sentenced to five years probation and 120 hours of community service. Both were handed a $5,000 fine and $500 in restitution.

Additionally, Lori Vincent lost her nursing job after she admitted illegally entering the Capitol building.

In the 13 months since the insurrection, more than 750 participants have been arrested for crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol, including over 235 individuals charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement, prosecutors said.
