Three tornadoes touched down in Kentucky Friday night, with two of the twisters not terribly far from Grayson County.
The National Weather Service (NWS) said the first tornado touched down near Rosetta in eastern Breckinridge County at approximately 9:20 Friday night. After touching down, the EF-0 tornado, with maximum winds of 80 miles per hour, continued northeastward toward Bewleyville before lifting near Nelson Board Road.
The NWS said a small outbuilding was destroyed and several trees were snapped in half. No injuries were reported.
The tornado was on the ground for 2.6 miles and was approximately 100 yards wide.
The second twister touched down at 9:38 p.m. near the intersection of Spears Lane and St. John Road near Rineyville in Hardin County. The EF-1 tornado, with maximum winds of 100 miles per hour, was on the ground for 4.1 miles and was 100 yards wide.
After touching down near St. John Road, it continued to French Lane and Fuller Road before impacting Leasor Lane.
The twister took the roof off a barn and struck a residence near St. John Road, resulting in “major roof loss.” An outbuilding on the property was also destroyed.
Additionally, the twister impacted a home on Leasor Lane with the residence suffering “minor roof panel damage,” according to the NWS.
Trees along the path suffered major damage.
No injuries were reported.
The final tornado touched down at 10:09 p.m. near Lebanon Junction in Bullitt County. The EF-1, with maximum winds of 105 miles per hour, was on the ground for .32 miles and was 100 yards wide. The tornado was on the ground for about one minute, the NWS said.
The twister “was associated with the same parent thunderstorm as the Rineyville tornado,” the NWS reports, and developed along Wilson Creek Road.
A carport roof was partially blown off and several trees were snapped in half and/or uprooted. The twister, the NWS said, “affected several nearby residences.”
No injuries were reported.
(An EF-1 tornado associated with the same thunderstorm system also touched down in Washington County, Indiana. Heavy damage was sustained but there were no reports of injuries.)
