Over 20 horses have perished in a Scott County barn fire.
The fire, at Brannon Stables, occurred early Sunday morning. Officials are unclear at this point how the fire started but investigators will be on the scene this week to make that determination.
Brannon Stables employees told Fox 56 that they suspect lightning may have caused the fire, as there were storms in the area around the time the blaze began.
Elena Jordan, who rode at least one horse at the stable, told WKYT.com that 25 horses died in the blaze.
All of the deceased horses were housed in a barn that was leveled by the fire. An unknown number of dogs and cats also died in the blaze.
Brannon Stables, a horse riding school, was founded in the 1970s. All the horses who perished were All-American Saddlebreds.
