
Grayson County voters selected two new magistrates and a new constable in Tuesday’s Primary Election.
With a 25.9 percent voter turnout — 4,676 votes cast vs. 18,077 registered voters — in Grayson County, 1st Magisterial District voters cast 296 votes (51.4 percent) for challenger Ben Hodges to 280 votes (48.6) for incumbent Magistrate Kevin Fulkerson.
In the 4th Magisterial District, former Magistrate Jason Dennis defeated incumbent Damon Hornback 411 votes (56.5 percent) to 317 (43.5 percent).
In the 3rd Magisterial District race for constable, challenger Brian Jaggers unseated incumbent Marion Higgs by a vote of 422 (67.1 percent) to 207 (32.9 percent).
Other local race results:
- In the 18th District State Representative battle, incumbent Samara Heavrin overcame a challenge by Jacob Clark. In Grayson County, Heavrin received 2,344 votes (59.7) to Clark’s 1,584 (40.3 percent). In Hardin County, Heavrin received 837 votes (51.7 percent) to 782 (48.3 percent) for Clark, giving the Heavrin the victory with 3,181 votes (57.3 percent) to Clark’s 2,366 (42.7 percent).
- Incumbent County Attorney Jeremy Logsdon defeated challenger Shan Embry 2,533 votes (63.8 percent) to 1,440 (36.2 percent).
- Incumbent Coroner Joe Brad Hudson fought off two challengers, earning 1,868 votes (47.1 percent) to Bradley R. Dermitt’s 1,511 votes (38.1 percent) and B. Stephen Stapleton’s 586 votes (14.8 percent).
- In the 6th Magisterial District battle for magistrate, incumbent Charles Neal Saltsman garnered 541 votes (76.2 percent) to challenger Troy Pohlman’s 169 votes (23.8 percent).
- In the 1st District Magisterial District race for constable, incumbent Damon Lasley III netted 353 votes (69.2 percent) to 157 votes (30.8 percent) for Jordan B. Powell.
- The constable race in the 2nd Magisterial District saw incumbent Alvin Dockery earn 324 votes (61 percent) to James B. Logsdon’s 207 votes (39 percent).
- Incumbent 5th Magisterial District Constable Mark Stanton received 393 votes (63.7) to Matthew Logsdon’s 224 votes (36.3 percent).
All of Tuesday’s night’s winners are Republicans and none will face a challenger in November.
Congressional race
In the GOP 2nd Congressional District U.S. Representative battle, incumbent Brett Guthrie dominated his two opponents by earning 52,116 votes (78 percent), compared to 11,983 votes (17.9 percent) for Lee Watts and 2,676 votes (4.0 percent) for Brent Feher.
In Grayson County, Guthrie easily defeated his two challengers by garnering 82.7 percent of the vote.
Guthrie will battle Democrat Hank Linderman in the November General Election after the Falls of Rough resident defeated William Dakota Compton 20,162 votes (58.3 percent) to 14,449 (41.7 percent).
Linderman, in Grayson County, easily outdistanced Compton by receiving 373 votes (63.1) to Compton’s 218 (36.9 percent).
