A mother, father and small child have died after a vehicle traveled backward over an embankment and landed on its top in a creek in Carter County.

According to Kentucky State Police, 41-year-old Jitu Galani, his wife, 39-year-old Nitu Galani, and their four-year-old son, all of Beaver Creek, Ohio, perished in the accident.

State police said that on Saturday night at approximately 9:30, Jitu Galani was driving a 2014 Honda CRV when he passed the entrance to Carter Caves State Resort Park near Olive Hill. Jitu Galani then backed up the vehicle and plunged over the embankment.

The couple’s 11-year-old son, who suffered only minor injuries, was able to escape the SUV. He notified a park ranger about the accident.

The family had just finished vacationing in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and was meeting friends to camp overnight at Carter Caves before returning home to Ohio, according to media reports.
