The wrong-way driver that killed three people on I-75 in Laurel County on Monday night has been charged with three counts of murder.

The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office charged 21-year-old Joshua S. Poore, of Clovis, California, with the murder counts after Poore, while driving a truck north on the southbound lanes of I-75, struck a vehicle, killing all three occupants. The crash occurred just before 11:00 Monday night near Exit 38 (London).

“It is suspected that the accused was intoxicated at the time of the collision,” Sheriff John Root said.

The three people killed in the crash were all in their 20s and from Chicago. A social media post by a private citizen stated that the three people were returning home after visiting relatives in the area.

Poore was initially transported to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center for treatment. He was arrested after being released on Wednesday.

Poore is being held in the Laurel County Detention Center on a $1 million bond.
