A Leitchfield man has been arrested after receiving his second in less than six months and threatening to kill two officers.

Friday night at approximately 9:40, Grayson County Dispatch informed officers of a reckless driving complaint on an eastbound Chevrolet Tahoe in the 3000 block of Owensboro Road near Ray Priddy Road.

Leitchfield Police Department Sgt. Keith Harrell, who was on his way to work, made contact with the vehicle just west of Leitchfield and attempted to execute a traffic stop at the intersection of West Main Street and Old Hartford Road after observing the Tahoe swerving, according to the arrest citation. The vehicle, though, did not pull over until reaching the 600 block of West Main Street.

Upon making contact with the driver, 44-year-old Robert L. Sarver, of Leitchfield, Harrell detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle, the citation states, and police observed the suspect had glassy, bloodshot eyes. Harrell also discovered Sarver was driving on an expired license.

The suspect refused to undergo a field sobriety test and a preliminary breath test.

Sarver was then arrested for DUI. At this point, the suspect began acting aggressively, as police located empty beer cans and a liquor bottle inside the vehicle, according to the citation.

He was transported to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center for a blood draw, but the suspect refused to have his blood taken. A warrant for the blood draw was obtained, with Sarver then allowing his blood to be drawn for testing.

During this time, Sarver again began behaving in an aggressive manner, screaming and cursing inside the emergency room. He then threatened to kill Harrell and Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Jason Luedke; telling Harrell he was going to come to his house and “cut off his head in front of his wife,” police said. He additionally threatened to “bash in” Luedke’s head.

As a result, in addition to the DUI and driving on an expired license charges, Sarver was charged with two counts of terroristic threatening and second-degree disorderly conduct.

He was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center but is no longer listed as an inmate.

Leitchfield PD Officer Tamara Jupin assisted at the scene.

This marks Sarver’s second DUI since March, when he was arrested on the same charge by LPD Officer DJ Newton.
