A minister performing an outdoor wedding on Saturday in Casey County took the plunge himself when he tumbled into a pond during the ceremony.

Pastor Jason Coulter, music director at Green River Pentecostal Church in Hustonville, was performing Josh and Whitney Carmicle’s wedding ceremony on the edge of a pond when, as the bride was being led to the pond-side dock, he bent over to pick up some notes that had blown away.

When he did, Coulter fell into the pond.

“All at once a gust of wind takes my notes to the pond,” Coulter told WKYT.com. Coulter said he then leaned over the dock’s railing and for “whatever reason I flip off into the water.”

The ministerial faux pas, according to the bride, brought a bit of levity to the occasion and seemed to relax the atmosphere.

“I think everybody kind of looks to something special at wedding occasions. At the time it was chaotic, but after it was over, this is a good thing,” Coulter told the television station.

With drenched notes in hand, Coulter finished the ceremony, and became a social media sensation.

“I’m excited about it. I love all the comments, the emails, the messages … had a church say, ‘hey we are playing this Sunday morning for our congregation,’” Coulter said.

In addition to his duties as music minister, Coulter works at Fox and Friend Funeral Home in Stanford.
