Police identify body of man killed in western Ky. house fire

Kentucky State Police has identified the man killed in a McLean County house fire.

According to state police, first responders were dispatched to a residential fire Friday morning at approximately 8:45 in the 300 block of Garrett Street in Sacramento. During the post-fire investigation, the body of 69-year-old Jeff E. Helm was discovered.

Authorities said the preliminary investigation showed a faulty portable heater may have caused the blaze.

The investigation is ongoing and being conducted by Kentucky State Police, the State Fire Marshal’s Office and McLean County Coroner’s Office.
