The Leitchfield Fire Department hosted a fishing tournament on Saturday to benefit the Shop with a Firefighter Christmas assistance program.
Forty boats hit the Rough River Lake waters Saturday morning, resulting in over $2,000 being raised for the Shop with a Firefighter effort, which is linked to Grayson County Community Action’s Christmas program that serves underprivileged children in the county.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic severely limiting recent fundraising efforts, “This fishing tournament was much needed to make this year’s project successful,” fire officials said. “The teams who turned out are very much appreciated.”
LFD is planning a spring 2023 fishing tournament to benefit its money-raising efforts for Crusade for Children.
Winning first place in the tournament was Tony Campanella and Steve Humphrey, with a total fish weight of 11.09 pounds, narrowly outweighing second place finisher Braden Fleener’s 10.96 total weight.
Allen Boyd and Mike Hacker won third place with 10.15 pounds of fish, and John R. Carroll and Jacob Carroll took fourth place with 9.63 pounds of fish — In an act of kindness, the Carroll’s donated their $200 prize money back to the fire department.
Todd Hensley and Charlie Hentrup won the Big Fish prize with a 4.44 pound catch.
