A Leitchfield woman has been arrested after police found her in possession of over 15 grams of methamphetamine while responding to a shoplifting complaint.

Monday night at approximately 10:30, Leitchfield Police Sgt. Keith Harrell and Officer DJ Newton responded to Walmart on a shoplifting complaint where multiple individuals stole several items from the store.

One of the two suspects, 25-year-old Riley L. Milliner, was observed loading the stolen items into a Chevrolet Tahoe in the retailer’s parking lot, with the license plate of the vehicle captured by the “store security plate reader,” according to the arrest citation.

Police watched surveillance video of the incident and ran the license plate, which indicated the SUV is owned by 38-year-old Shelly N. Carnes, of Leitchfield.

Newton, while looking for the vehicle, spotted the Chevy, being driven by Milliner, in the 200 block of South Main Street and discovered the vehicle had expired tags and no insurance. As Newton conducted a traffic stop, Harrell quickly arrived on the scene.

Carnes, while being questioned, stated that she participated in the theft with Milliner and that they had “left the items with” someone else, the citation states.

During a search of Carnes, police located more than 15 grams of methamphetamine (over a half-ounce) in a plastic bag.

Carnes was arrested and charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and complicity to theft by unlawful taking along with non-moving violations. Milliner was charged with theft by unlawful taking and non-moving violations.

Both suspects were lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center. Carnes is no longer listed as an inmate.
