A Hardin County juvenile has been arrested after shooting and killing a Radcliff teenager.

The Radcliff Police Department responded to the shooting Sunday night at approximately 6:30 in the 1300 block of Kingswood Way, according to a report by The News-Enterprise. The 19-year-old victim was shot while in a vehicle.

The victim died Sunday night at about 11:00 at University of Louisville Hospital.

The 17-year-old suspect, also of Radcliff, was arrested several hours after the shooting.

North Hardin High School on Monday was placed on soft lockdown, indicating no visitors were allowed in the school building. Principal Jeff Maysey, while telling parents that additional law enforcement was requested at the school Monday, issued the following statement on the shooting:

“You may or may not be aware of a tragic incident that occurred in our community last night. We know students are discussing this situation and have concerns. We feel it is important for your students to feel secure while at school. I want you to know that your students are safe here at school. If they communicate with you today, please encourage them to tell an adult if they see any social media chatter or hear anything that concerns them.”

Additional law enforcement was present at the school Monday morning, but had left the school by 11:00 a.m.

A Hardin County Schools spokesman would not confirm with the newspaper if the suspect is a student at the North Hardin High School. The school district also would not comment on why the school was placed on soft lockdown.

All extracurricular events and activities scheduled for Monday were cancelled.
