A man has been arrested after firing at a construction crew in Nelson County.

The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office said that on Monday deputies responded to a call of shots fired at a construction crew from a southbound Ford Flex in the St. Thomas area on New Haven Road.

Sheriff Ramon Pineiroa happened to be traveling north on New Haven Road when he spotted the vehicle. He attempted a traffic stop but the vehicle fled onto Balltown Road before turning onto Jim Clark Road. The Ford then began experiencing mechanical issues, police said.

The pursuit then came to a stop and both occupants exited the vehicle. The passenger exited with his hands up and was quickly placed in handcuffs.

Pineiroa pursued the driver, Davie Lyvers, 41, of New Haven, catching the suspect in the field.

Lyvers, who resisted arrest, according to the sheriff’s office, was arrested.

Lyvers of New Haven was lodged in the Nelson County Detention Center where he was charged with two counts of fleeing or evading police (on foot, motor vehicle), first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, his second DUI, reckless driver, and possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle.

Additional charges are expected.
