
Chester “Sonny” Allen Gritton, age 78, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Thursday, (May 25, 2023) at Norton Brownsboro in Louisville, KY. He was born on August 28, 1944 in Brandenburg, KY, the son of the late Eugene H. Thompson and Evelyn Carman Thompson.
He was a man of all trades and worked so hard all of his life in different industries including electrical and construction work, which sparked his love of woodcraft. After moving to Leitchfield, he and his wife owned and operated the McDaniel’s General Store for seven and a half years.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing the drums, singing, and tending to his garden and lawn. Throughout all his years of hard work the greatest work done, was the work he did for the Lord. He was a proud member of the Free Liberty Community Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Phyllis A. Gritton; two sons, Troy D. Gritton (Tina) and Christopher A. Gritton (Paula) both of Jeffersontown, KY; grandchildren, Cora and Von Souimanyphanh of Utah and Bridgette Gritton; great-grandchildren Tyler and Tayah Souimanyphanh; brother, Gary Gritton (Sharon); sisters, Bonnie Elder and Shirley Poteet; and
one brother-in-law, Ronnie Anderson (Carol).
Other his parents, he was preceded in death by his father that raised him, Fred N. Gritton; four
siblings, Jerry, Linda, Patty, and Keith; and one sister-in-law, Shelia Gideon.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. CST Thursday, (June 1, 2023) at the Dermitt Funeral
Home in Leitchfield. Bro. David Clark will be officiating. Burial will be in Leitchfield Memory
Gardens.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. CST on
Wednesday, (May 31, 2023) and at 11:00 a.m. CST on Thursday until time of services.
