A Morgantown man has been arrested in Ohio County on drug trafficking charges following a wreck.
Ohio County Sheriff Adam Wright said that on Tuesday night at approximately 6:30, deputies responded to an accident on southbound I-165. Upon arriving at the scene, police found that a large truck veered off the highway and struck a guardrail before hitting an interstate sign. The vehicle came to rest in the median.
The driver, 46-year-old Lehmon W. Phelps, exited the vehicle and “was acting suspiciously,” Wright said. Witnesses notified deputies about Phelps’ behavior upon their arrival.
During a search of the vehicle and Phelps, police located a 9mm pistol, a large amount of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Phelps was arrested and charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), DUI, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was lodged in the Ohio County Detention Center.
