A Bullitt County fast food restaurant cashier is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly stealing customers’ credit and debit card information.

The Mt. Washington Police Department began its investigation after customers from Taco Bell reported fraudulent credit/debit card charges. The investigation showed the victims had all bought food from the same restaurant and paid the same cashier, 22-year-old Summer Burton, of Mt. Washington.

WDRB.com reports that, according to court documents, “police reviewed surveillance video from the Taco Bell … that showed Burton activate the camera on her smart phone and place her phone in such a way that it could record her swiping customers’ credit or debit cards when they paid for their meals.”

The investigation further revealed that Burton had perpetrated the thefts on 20 occasions. It’s unclear at this point the dollar amount Burton is accused of stealing.

She was arrested and charged with 20 counts of use of a scanning device or re-encoder to illegally access transaction info from a credit card, 20 counts of identity theft, one count of trafficking in stolen identities, two counts of fraudulent use of a credit card, and two counts of theft by unlawful taking.

Burton was lodged in the Bullitt County Detention Center.
