LaRue County High School is fighting a student body vaping problem by installing vape detectors.

The school installed the devices in all bathrooms. The first three days after the installation of the vape detectors 15 vapes were confiscated, Eric Allen, Director of Student Services, told WDRB.com. In total, officials have confiscated 20 vapes.

The detectors, purchased with a grant, do not sound an audible alarm when vaping is detected. They instead send texts and email notifications to the principal, assistant principals and school resource officers.

“Just trying to protect our students’ safety and health,” Allen told the Louisville television station.

The school district also plans to install the devices at the middle school.
