The Grayson County High School Football Alumni Association (GCHSFAA) has again raised thousands of dollars and tens of thousands of pounds of food for Grayson County Alliance (GCA).

This year, the Tackle Hunger fundraising effort conducted during Spirit Week by GCHSFAA, in coordination with Grayson County Schools, raised $6,224.67 for the GCA Food Pantry and a hearty 3,026 pounds of food, which translates to 52,487 meals for Grayson County families dealing with food insecurity.

“It is a pleasure to work with the Cougar alumni on Tackle Hunger each year,” GCA Executive Director Debbie Childress said. “I was blown away by how the friendly competition to raise more funds this year spanned giving from individuals across three decades of GCHS alumni. Their enthusiasm and hard work are making a huge impact at the food pantry and GCA is so thankful!”

The GCHFAA was founded in 2018 by Roger Lush, and since 2019, the first year of the Tackle Hunger initiative, the organization, along with Grayson County Schools, has raised over $12,300 and more than 12,500 pounds of food for GCA.

Those donations convert to over 113,000 meals for needy families.

Additionally, since 2018, GCHSFAA has donated nearly $12,000 to the GCHS Cougar Football Boosters fund, the Grayson County Junior Pro Program and scholarships for graduating GCHS football players.
