Grayson County is now under a Total Burn Ban.

Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson signed an Executive Order Tuesday afternoon banning all outside burning in the county.

The Total Burn Ban comes as dry weather and warmer than normal temperatures create conditions ripe for forest fires. At least 51 other Kentucky counties have issued Total Burn Bans.

Earlier this month, the county experienced two large wildfires resulting in approximately 150 acres being burned. The larger of the two fires, off Hilton Mill Road, burned just over 100 acres, while a fire off Grayson Springs Road charred approximately 40 acres. Additionally, there have been several smaller grass/woods fires that fire departments have responded to over the last few weeks.

The Total Burn Ban is in effect until the county “receives sufficient rainfall to mitigate the fire hazard period,” the executive order states.

The penalty for violating the total burn ban is not less than a $500 fine and between 30 and 100 days in jail.
