The city of Leitchfield will soon likely have a second code enforcement officer.

At Monday night’s city council meeting, council members heard the first reading of an amended ordinance calling for the city to have as many as two code enforcement officers, as the current ordinance stipulates that the city employs only one.

Currently, Tyler Harrell serves as the city’s lone code enforcement officer (among other responsibilities). Dalton McStoots, though, has “been working under Tyler for some time,” Mayor Harold Miller said, before adding that he believes McStoots will be appointed an official code enforcement officer (pending the passage of the amended ordinance).

McStoots, on Friday and Monday, was a key participant in cleaning up Loflin’s Auto Parts & Service Center.

The second and final reading of the amended ordinance will presumably be voted on at the next city council meeting on May 6.

Executive Session

The council entered an 18-minute Executive Session to discuss potential land acquisition. Upon emerging from the private session, City Attorney Earlene Wilson said the council approved the purchase of property bordering Leitchfield Public Works at 510 South English Street.

K105 will have more information on the land purchase in the coming days.

Wilson, during the session, also updated the council on “pending litigation.”

Zoning change request

The council heard the first reading of a zoning change request for the property at 204 Kane Avenue.

The property is currently zoned R-5 (multi-family), with the property owner requesting a change to R-2 (single-family, medium-density).

The Leitchfield Planning Commission previously approved the change.

The council will hold a second and final reading and vote on the matter at the next meeting.
