Grayson County will have $1.6 million in road work completed over the next year via the Rural Secondary Program.
Bow Warren, Branch Manager for Construction and Maintenance with Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District (KYTC) 4, told Grayson County Fiscal Court that asphalt resurfacing or asphalt paver patching will take place on three roads:
- Wax Road from Grayson Springs Road to Millerstown Road (4.95 miles) — asphalt resurfacing in the amount of $526,185
- Concord Road from 110-feet east of Duff Road to Owensboro Road (2.57 miles) — asphalt resurfacing in the amount of $271,019
- Hopewell Road at Falls of Rough Road for a distance of 5.0 miles — asphalt paver patching in the amount of $133,413
Routine maintenance and traffic-control costs for the projects: $668,700
County judge-executive expense: $3,875
In total, the work, funded by 22.2 percent of motor fuel tax receipts, will cost $1,603,192.
Anneta Road base failure issues
Serious safety concerns about Anneta Road (259 south) were voiced by Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson to Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials present at the Fiscal Court.
“I have, along with magistrates, gotten several complaints about the 259 south project … I had four complaints over the weekend” regarding base failures, Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson told Brad Bottoms, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 4 Chief District Engineer. “… If you’re not driving those roads, you don’t know how bad they are … They are bad. They’re dangerously bad.”
Bottoms said KYTC workers are aware of and are addressing the base failure issues.
“We’re working on base failures today it looked like, and they had patched a couple of them,” Bottoms told magistrates. “There are still a couple left that they need to do but they were working on those today, it appeared … That is being addressed and it looks like there’s a couple others to address, and we’ll make sure those are on their radar.”
Once the base failures are addressed, the roadway will undergo asphalt resurfacing, according to Bottoms.
Anneta Road has been undergoing a process to widen the roadway, as roughly two feet of asphalt has been added to each side of the road.
