A pilot from Kentucky whose plane disappeared from radar on approach to a Bahamian airport has been found deceased.

Christopher Moore, 59, of Louisville, went missing on Sunday around noon while approaching an airport in Marsh Harbour, his wife, Stacye Love, told WDRB.com. Moore’s plane was found about two-and-a-half miles short of the runway, Love told WHAS11.com. She added that Moore died on impact.

He was found by a private search team.

Moore, with nine years of flying experience, flew out of Sebastian, Florida, about 75 miles southeast of Orlando, in a single-engine Bristell aircraft.

The flight from Sebastian to Marsh Harbour is approximately three hours.

The U.S. Coast Guard deployed aircrews from Miami and Clearwater, Florida, on Sunday to search for Moore. The Coast Guard searched a 1,760 square mile area with “negative results,” WHAS11.com reports. The Coast Guard was assisting the Royal Bahamas Defense Force, which informed the Coast Guard that they were suspending the search Sunday evening at 11:00.

Love then went to the Bahamas and led the search effort.

Moore was last heard by three pilots as his plane flew about five miles from Leonard M. Thompson International Airport in Marsh Harbour.
