An elementary school student in Wayne County has died following a car accident.

Wayne County Schools announced on social media the death of fourth-grade student Caroline Alvarez. The school district said she died from “injuries sustained in a car accident last week” in Clinton County.

She was a student at Monticello Elementary School.

Caroline’s death in a vehicle crash comes less than three weeks after two Adair County Middle School students were involved in a DUI car crash during the early morning hours of Sunday, April 20.

One student, 14-year-old Skyler Huckaby, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The other young victim, sixth-grade student David King Jr., died from his injuries on May 1.

Police arrested David King Jr’s father, 31-year-old David King, of Columbia, and charged him with vehicular homicide when under the influence of alcohol, this third DUI (aggravating circumstances), first-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment, reckless driving, and failure to wear a seatbelt.

King admitted to police that he consumed about 30 beers prior to the crash.
