A Hardin County man has been jailed after hitting several bicyclists resulting in the death of one person.
The Christian County Sheriff’s Office said that on the evening of Monday, May 5, deputies responded to a “serious motor vehicle collision involving a vehicle and four bicyclists in the 1000 block of Pembroke Rd.”
Upon arriving at the scene, first responders found that two of the cyclists were unresponsive. Both female victims were transported to a local hospital before being taken to a Nashville hospital where one of the victims, 31-year-old Marlene Martin, died from her injuries.
Rachel Hoover, 34, remains in critical condition.
The driver of the vehicle that struck the bicyclists, 30-year-old Isaiah J. Edwards, of Radcliff, “displayed multiple signs of impairment during roadside sobriety testing,” the Christian Co. Sheriff’s Office said.
Edwards was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance (aggravating circumstances, and his third such arrest).
He was lodged in the Christian County Detention Center on a $100,000 cash bond.
Additional charges are expected to be filed.
