A Leitchfield man has been arrested after allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl.
The Leitchfield Police Department inquiry began on February 24 after investigators received a report of the possible sexual abuse of a teenager.
The investigation, according to Leitchfield police, showed that 37-year-old James Daniel Smith “had engaged in numerous online conversations with the victim through social media before he picked her up, away from her home.”
“Smith was found to have engaged in sexual intercourse with the juvenile on at least two occasions as well as engaging in other deviant sexual acts,” the Leitchfield Police Department said.
The suspect also engaged in online conversations with the juvenile that police said were “sexually graphic.” Smith additionally discussed sexual acts with the victim and “plans to do them again in the future.”
The conversations, police said, were uncovered when the juvenile’s parents monitored the child’s online conversations.
The investigation’s findings were presented to a Grayson County Grand Jury earlier this month and resulted in Smith being indicted for third-degree rape, third-degree sodomy and two counts of first-degree sexual abuse.
He is lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center on three bonds totaling $60,000.
