An elderly couple has died in an apparent murder-suicide.
According to the Russell Co. Coroner’s Office, first responders were dispatched to a residence on Cherokee Trail in the Jabez community at approximately 8:45 Saturday night.
Upon arriving at the scene, officials discovered 78-year-old Thomas Sawyer and his wife, 80-year-old Dorothy Sawyer, deceased from gunshot wounds.
“Preliminary findings indicate a possible homicide/suicide situation,” the coroner’s office said in a social media post.
Both bodies were transported to the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for autopsies.
Kentucky State Police and the Russell Co. Coroner’s Officer are leading the investigation.
