Human remains found last month in Brandenburg have been identified as a missing woman.
The remains were transported to the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville.
On Wednesday, the Meade County Sheriffs Office announced that the Medical Examiner’s Office informed the Meade Co. Coroner’s Office that the remains are those of Cheryl Smalarz, of Brandenburg, according to the Brandenburg Police Department. Dental records were used to make the identification.
Smalarz “was the listed victim in a missing persons case,” the Brandenburg PD said.
The police department noted that “no signs of trauma or foul play” were found. A cause of death, though, has not been established.
The investigation continues.
