A medical episode preceded a double-fatality accident involving an ATV and SUV.
The crash happened on Hwy 27 in Parker’s Lake in McCreary County at approximately 2:20 p.m. Wednesday.
Kentucky State Police said that a Toyota Highlander, being driven by 77-year-old Linda J. Moncrief, of Stearns, “grazed” a motorcycle on Hwy 27 but continued traveling north in the southbound lane before side-swiping a Honda ATV, being driven by 74-year-old Roger D. Stanton, of Parker’s Lake.
The ATV, which was in the emergency lane, was flipped into a wooded area as Stanton was ejected from the vehicle.
The McCreary Co. Coroner’s Office said it’s believed that Moncrief suffered a medical episode prior to the crash.
Both Stanton, who was not wearing a helmet, and Moncrief died at the scene.
Moncrief’s son, 55-year-old Lloyd Moncrief, of Stearns, was airlifted to University of Kentucky Medical Center.
The two people on the motorcycle, 82-year-old Costello Wilson, of Pine Knot, and a juvenile were not injured.
Kentucky State Police is leading the ongoing investigation.
