A man has been arrested following a deadly crash in Marion County.
Kentucky State Police said troopers responded to the crash Saturday morning at approximately 10:00 at the intersection of Hwy 68 and the Lebanon Bypass.
The state police investigation showed that 26-year-old Justin Baron, of Loretto, “was traveling west on Hwy 68 in a 2002 Dodge Ram and approached the intersection with the Lebanon Bypass where he attempted a right turn at the intersection at a high rate of speed.”
Baron lost control of his vehicle, traveled across the intersection and collided with a 2010 GMC Sierra that was stopped at a traffic light on Lebanon Bypass.
The GMC was being driven by 55-year-old William Norris, of Loretto, who was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Marion County Coroner’s Office.
A passenger in Norris’ vehicle, 82-year-old Shirley Norris, of Lebanon, was transported to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Baron was transported to Spring View Hospital where he was treated and released for minor injuries. Upon his release, Baron was arrested by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office on charges related to an incident prior to the collision: Reckless driving, first-degree wanton endangerment, receiving stolen property (more than $1,000, less than $10,000), fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), failure to wear a seat belt, and no driver’s license.
Additional charges related to the fatal crash are forthcoming from Kentucky State Police.
Baron is lodged in the Marion County Detention Center on a $25,000 cash bond.
