
A man has died in a kayaking accident on North Fork Kentucky River near Hazard.
Kentucky Fish & Wildlife told WYMT.com that the incident happened on Sunday afternoon at approximately 3:30 on North Fork Kentucky River when a kayak containing two people flipped over near a low-head dam.
One person in the kayak, a 16-year-old girl, was rescued from the water, while 37-year-old Kevin Sellers, of Hazard, died in the accident.
Officials said there were no life jackets in use at the time of the incident.
“If you’re in in a kayak, we always highly recommend you wearing a life jacket. You are required to have one on board,” a Fish & Wildlife officials told WYMT.com.
