Gordan Phillip Stevenson, 62, of Smiths Grove passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Father’s Day, June 15, 2025 at Signature Health and Rehab Center in Bowling Green.
The Edmonson County native was born July 12, 1962 to the late Clayton and Avis Vincent Stevenson and grew up in Bee Spring along with his siblings, the late Greg Stevenson and Geavonda Stevenson (Kenny), who survives. He was loved by his family, friends and co-workers.
Phillip was a truck driver in his early years. He later became a dispatcher at Sun/Cowin in Bowling Green for 21 years. He enjoyed his work and was well respected. One of his dear friends and co-worker recently expressed that Phillip could brighten anyone’s day and turn it into a great day. His friends and co-workers said that he was genuine- he did not try to “fit-in” and he was who he was. To be around him was a joy and you always walked away with a smile.
Phil had a passion for running rabbit dogs that was inherited from his dad. He would always express how he had the best dogs and talk about all the trophies they had won for him. His friends would kid him and say, “Yes you have great dogs, but you will trade at least one next week.” To which he would reply with a smile, “You just can’t turn down a good deal.”
He loved his community of Bee Spring, where he lived for many years. His favorite activity was participating in the Haunted Barn during several Halloween seasons. He loved giving back, and this event raised thousands of dollars to help children of Edmonson County who were in need.
The most important part of Phil’s life was his private relationship with god. He was saved at the age of 13 while attending a revival at South Union General Baptist Church, where his dad was the pastor. He was proud that he had a dad and mom that raised him in a Christian home.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Bee Spring Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM Saturday.
In addition to his sister, he leaves to honor his memory his wife, Cynthia Stevenson; daughters, Tasha Jones and Shana Meredith; son, Shaun Jones; grandchildren, Gage Abney, Maddison King, Kaylee King, Grayson Wells, Christian Phillips, Avalyne Phillips and Arabella Abney.
