A woman has been jailed after attacking her six-year-old girl with a hammer.
The Louisville Metro Police Department responded to the assault on Thursday afternoon at 12:45 on Wilson Avenue.
Upon arriving at the scene, police found that 40-year-old Zeinab O. Abdi had beat her young daughter in the head with a hammer, rendering her unconscious, according to a report by WDRB.com.
The child was transported to Norton Children’s Hospital where she is in critical condition and suffering from skull fractures and brain bleeds.
Abdi, while being questioned by police, admitted she has difficulty controlling her anger and that she struck her child “in the head with a hammer for an unknown amount of times,” WDRB.com reports.
Adbi’s son, who attempted to restrain his mother while she was assaulting the six-year-old, said his mother yelled “let me finish her.”
The suspect was charged with attempted murder (domestic violence) and is lodged in Louisville Metro Corrections on a $500,000 cash bond.
The Louisville Metro Police Department Homicide Unit is leading the investigation.
