A woman fleeing police crashed into a grocery store and was ejected from her vehicle into the store.
The Georgetown Police Department said the incident happened on Monday morning at approximately 1:50 when 35-year-old Amber L. Samokar, of Winchester, was observed traveling 71 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone on McClelland Circle.
“As the officer turned around to initiate a traffic stop, he located the vehicle crashed along Hwy 25. As the officer approached to check on the occupant, the vehicle regained traction and fled at a high rate of speed northbound on Hwy 25,” police said.
While the officer was in the process of notifying dispatch and requesting pursuit authorization, the vehicle crashed into the Save-A-Lot grocery store, as Samokar was ejected into the grocery store.
She suffered serious injuries, police said, and was transported to a local hospital. Samokar was charged with first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, DUI, fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), reckless driving, first-degree criminal mischief, and speeding. Additional charges are possible.
