A couple in Hardin County has been jailed after police found them passed out in a vehicle with a large amount of drugs, a firearm and their baby.

The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office responded Tuesday morning at approximately 9:35 to North Fourth Street in West Point to conduct a welfare check. Upon police arriving, they found 37-year-old Christopher W. Burns and 26-year-old Kiara N. Fizer, both of Radcliff, passed out in a vehicle with the couple’s baby crawling around inside the vehicle, according to a report by WDRB.com.

The vehicle, which was not turned on, smelled of marijuana and the windows were rolled down. The baby was within reach of drugs and a loaded gun.

Police were not able to wake the suspects until they executed sternal rubs on both (sternal rubs include applying pressure to the sternum using one’s knuckles in a circular motion).

During a search of the vehicle, in addition to a firearm, deputies found a large amount of methamphetamine and marijuana in individual baggies, digital scales, and a methamphetamine pipe along with other drug paraphernalia.

Burns was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, endangering the welfare of a minor, trafficking in marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Fizer was charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), endangering the welfare of a minor, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The suspect were lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center. Burns is being held on a $150,000 cash bond while Fizer was given a $10,000 cash bond.

The couple’s baby was transported to Norton Children’s Hospital for evaluation before being released to the custody of Child Protective Services.
