As part of the Bissell Pet Foundation’s (BPF) Empty the Shelters National Adoption Event, the Leitchfield Animal Shelter (LAS) this weekend is offering half-off adoptions.

LAS said in a social media post that discount adoptions will be available on Friday through Monday at the shelter, located at 213 William Thomason Byway.

The shelter will also hold an “indoor raffle/auction with awesome prizes,” LAS said. Anyone who adopts an animal will receive a free raffle entry. The raffle winners will be announced on Tuesday.

LAS additionally announced that the hours the shelter is open on Saturdays are changing from noon to 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The shelter will open on Friday and Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The BPF Empty the Shelters National Adoption Event is the nation’s largest funded adoption event, as “Empty the Shelters helps homeless pets find families by making adoption affordable for prospective pet owners. We do this by supporting participating organizations with reimbursements for each pet adopted,” the organization says on its website.

This lifesaving reduced-fee adoption event is considered a Win-Win-Win by BPF:

  • Adopters win because BPF pays the adoption fees allowing them to take home a spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, and microchipped pet who is ready to be loved for $70 or less.
  • Shelters win because the event brings awareness and foot traffic, helping pets get adopted.
  • And, most importantly, every pet wins by finding
    a loving home.
