First responders of all varieties gathered Thursday morning to conduct an active shooter training exercise based at the Grayson County Health Department (GCHD) in Leitchfield.

The Leitchfield Police Department, Clarkson Police Department, Grayson Co. Sheriff’s Office, EMS, Grayson Co. Emergency Management (GCEM), Leitchfield Fire Department, Grayson Co. Detenion Center, and GCHD participated in the exercise Thursday beginning at 9:00 a.m.

“This morning, agencies from all over Grayson County participated in an active shooter training exercise at the Grayson County Health Department. While we hope to never have to implement this training, these exercises provide the opportunity to test plans and preparation for these events.”

“These exercises work on interagency coordination and communication to prepare for events in the future,” the GCEM said in a social media post.

The exercise impacted multiple streets, including South Clinton Street, East White Oak Street and South Heyser Drive.

“We would like to thank the community for your understanding of the temporary road closures. Also, we would like to thank all the participating agencies as this could not happen without everyone’s effort,” the GCEM said.
