A woman has been arrested in Madisonville after driving drunk with her unsecured children in the vehicle as she fled police in the opposite lane of travel on an interstate and rammed a police cruiser.

The Madisonville Police Department arrested 22-year-old Peri Brown, of Hopkinsville, on Saturday night after responding to a call regarding a reckless driver.

Police observed the vehicle at the intersection of Madison Square Drive and East Center Street where it “sped through the intersection and entered southbound I-69,” according to a report by WFIE.com.

Once on the interstate, officers clocked Brown driving 81 miles per hour in work zone before she crossed the median and began driving south in the northbound lanes with no headlights on.

Brown then reentered the southbound lanes before stopping her vehicle. As officers approached, Brown put the car in reverse and slammed into the front of a cruiser, as officers jumped out of the way.

When police made contact with the suspect, she smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech. Open alcoholic beverages were located in the car.

There were two small children in the vehicle; one in a car seat that was not buckled into the vehicle and one child was found “partially hanging out of the car seat and face-first against the back of the driver’s seat,” WFIE.com reports.

Brown was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle, DUI, reckless driving, fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), and disorderly conduct along with several moving and non-moving violations.

She’s being held in the Hopkins County Detention Center on a $100,000 cash bond.
