An on-duty EMS driver has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
Steven W. Jones, 60, was charged with DUI after he crashed a Knox County Ambulance Service ambulance on Wednesday evening near the intersection of Paynes Creek Road and Hwy 1304, near the Hinkle community and approximately seven miles east of Barbourville.
Jones, who blew a .140 on a breath test — nearly twice the legal limit to drive — told police he swerved to miss a deer before hitting a street sign, according to WKYT.com.
Jones was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.
WKYT.com reports that Jones is the director of Knox County EMS.
