Leitchfield PD nabs motorist allegedly driving drunk with 3 small children in vehicle

A man has been arrested by the Leitchfield Police Department for allegedly driving drunk with three small children in the vehicle.

The incident happened on Friday evening at approximately 6:50 when Leitchfield police responded to a fight complaint at Parkway Villa Apartments (aka Penner Apartments) on Penner Drive. Upon arriving at the scene, police were told the “party involved” in the fight had left the scene in a Chevrolet truck, according to the arrest citation.

Police made contact with the suspect’s vehicle on South English Street and conducted a traffic stop. Upon making contact with the driver, 38-year-old Ryan N. Meredith, of Glendale, officers detected “the presents (sic) of an alcoholic beverage coming from” Meredith.

The suspect additionally displayed “bloodshot eyes and exhibited difficulty answering questions,” the citation states. Meredith with given a field sobriety test and arrested.

Three children, ages 10- and three-years-old plus a six-month-old baby, were in the truck with Meredith and his wife.

During a search of the vehicle, police “located a non labeled (sic) pill bottle containing white capsule pills later identified as gabapentin,” according to the citation.

Meredith was charged with four counts of second-degree wanton endangerment, DUI and prescription controlled substance not in its proper container and lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
