
James Brent Alvey, age 69, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Saturday, (August 30, 2025) at Owensboro Health Twin Lakes. He was born on October 24, 1955 in Grayson County, KY, the son of his late father,
James Patrick Alvey, and his surviving mother, Nellie Beatrice Higdon Alvey.
Brent was a hard working farmer who raised cattle, tobacco and hay. He loved his farm and had employed numerous people to assist him in the many tasks involved. He enjoyed playing cards. He also had worked at Vermont American in Elizabethtown and at Altec. After retirement Brent mostly enjoyed spending time with his family and his beautiful granddaughters.
He was raised by his parents along with six other siblings. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Brent is survived by his mother, Nellie Beatrice Higdon Alvey; his children, Christopher Alvey and Ashley Wise (Derrick); his adored grandchildren, Piper and Evie Wise; siblings, Steve Alvey, Gail DeJarnette, Karen Mudd (Terry), Lisa Childress (Ken), Ricky Alvey (Sara), and Patty Sue Goins; and several nieces, nephews, and friends. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Beth Burres
Alvey.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Patrick Alvey, and his mother-in-law, Virginia Burres. There were two special dogs that held a place in Brent’s heart that also passed away, Honey and Olivia.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, (September 4, 2025) at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Leitchfield. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. A Prayer Service will be held on Wednesday night beginning at 6:00 p.m. There will be no public visitation on Thursday.
