A hiker has died after falling approximately 40 feet at Red River Gorge.
Powell County Search and Rescue (PCSR) said first responders were notified on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 that a male hiker had fallen 40 feet from the top of Whittleton Arch “down to the rocks below.”
The hiker, who was initially “alert and oriented, it became readily apparent the patient’s condition was critical,” PCSR said in a social media post.
The man was transported to Middlefork Fire Department where he was airlifted to University of Kentucky Medical Center. He later died at the Lexington hospital.
