Kentucky State Police Post 4 in Elizabethtown will participate in a multi-state initiative aimed at reducing crime and keeping illegal firearms out of local communities.

Between Thursday and Sunday, troopers will join law enforcement partners in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia for the 6-State Trooper Project.

The high-visibility enforcement period will concentrate on criminal patrol operations, specifically focusing on identifying felons in possession of firearms.

“Troopers will use traffic enforcement as an opportunity to detect and disrupt illegal activity, while also ensuring compliance with state and federal laws that prohibit certain individuals from carrying firearms,” KSP Post 4 Public Affairs Officer, Master Trooper Bryan Washer said.

Post 4 Commander, Captain Jeremy Smith, says the initiative highlights the agency’s ongoing commitment to community safety.

“By working together across state lines, we are able to take a stronger stand against crime,” Smith said. “Every illegal firearm taken off the streets is one less tool for criminals to use against innocent people. This operation is about protecting families and communities throughout the commonwealth and beyond.”

KSP encourages citizens to play a role in keeping communities safe. If you see suspicious or illegal activity, contact your local KSP Post or dial 911 in an emergency.

“Each of the 6-State Trooper Project’s enforcement periods targets a specific traffic or criminal safety concern. By coordinating enforcement, agencies can share resources, and intelligence and strategies to maximize their impact,” Washer said. “Multi-state partnerships like this initiative strengthen the collective fight against crime and help ensure Kentucky’s roadways and communities are safer for everyone.”
