Homecoming night turned into a classic at Cougar Stadium as Grayson County held off Butler County, 15–14, on Friday for its third straight win in the series.

The Cougars (2–2) leaned on junior running back Kadin Hanshaw, who carried 12 times for 83 yards and scored both of the team’s touchdowns. His 19-yard run in the third quarter, followed by an Ethan Mudd two-point conversion, gave Grayson County just enough cushion to hold on for the win.

Hanshaw also opened the scoring midway through the second quarter by capping a 15-play, 87-yard drive that chewed nearly 10 minutes off the clock. Butler (3–1) answered just before halftime, turning a Cougar interception into a short field and tying the game on a 5-yard pass from Brody Dockery to Kevin Robins with 30 seconds left.

The second half opened with fireworks. After Kayden Tyner’s interception set up Grayson County deep in Butler territory, Hanshaw broke free for a 19-yard touchdown. On the score, Hanshaw was taken down with a horse-collar tackle well out of bounds, sparking a skirmish that led to multiple Butler players being ejected along with Hanshaw.

Butler closed the gap in the fourth quarter when Dockery found Carson Davis for a 27-yard touchdown strike and added the conversion to pull within 15–14. The Bears nearly completed the comeback in the final minutes after a Grayson County fumble gave them new life. Dockery immediately connected with Robins for 63 yards down to the Cougar 22, but Butler’s potential go-ahead 20-yard field goal attempt in the closing seconds sailed wide.

Mudd added a strong performance on the ground for Grayson County with 81 yards on 15 carries and a catch for 8 yards. Jamycen Buster chipped in 28 rushing yards, while quarterback Jake Bratcher finished 3-for-9 passing for 7 yards with an interception. On defense, Bryce Aebersold led the way with seven tackles.

Dockery went 7-of-15 passing for 126 yards and two touchdowns for Butler County. Davis caught three passes for 56 yards and a score, while Robins added 64 receiving yards to go with 35 on the ground.

Grayson County now turns its attention to district play, traveling to Bowling Green next Friday to face Greenwood (2–2).
