Kentucky sheriff hit as he sits in cruiser at accident scene

A Kentucky sheriff was hit as he sat in his cruiser at a crash scene.

Kentucky State Police said the incident happened on I-64 on Sunday when Montgomery County Sheriff David Charles was assisting a Bath County fire department shut down the interstate following an accident.

While Charles was still in his cruiser, a 2025 Dodge Ram, with his emergency equipment activated, 61-year-old Michael Morris, of Lawrenceburg, struck the rear of the sheriff’s cruiser, state police said.

Charles was transported to St. Joseph Health – Mt. Sterling with non-life threatening injuries. He has since been released.

Morris and two passengers, Mary Morris and Kristie Godby, of Lawrenceburg, were also transported to the Mt. Sterling hospital. Michael Morris was later airlifted to University of Kentucky Medical Center.

The accident remains under investigation by Trooper Jordan Barnett.
