A hiker has been rescued after falling 40 feet at an eastern Kentucky nature preserve.

The incident happened on Saturday afternoon at approximately 1:00 when Wolfe County Search & Rescue (WCSR) was notified that a man had fallen 40 feet off a cliff at the Muir Valley Nature Preserve, south of Red River Gorge.

“As team members accessed the subject’s location, it became immediately apparent he was in serious condition, and a request was made for a medical helicopter from … and for an EMS transport to be staged at the valley floor,” WCSR said in a social media post.

Crews, including a paramedic, EMT and two nurses treated the hiker for “multiple traumatic injuries” at the scene.

The hiker was then airlifted to a hospital.
