A woman who killed an eastern Kentucky man in a DUI crash has reached a plea deal.
Sarah Spurling, 34, of Louisville, reached a plea deal after being charged with DUI, vehicular homicide and felony wanton endangerment in the October 4, 2024, death of 64-year-old Roger L. Arnett.
The crash occurred in Magoffin County at the intersection of Hwy 460 and Hwy 114 when Spurling, driving a Toyota Avalon, struck Arnett’s Chevrolet Malibu as he was turning into a driveway. The Malibu then hit a GMC Sierra truck.
Arnett was transported to Paintsville Appalachian Regional Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Spurling reached a plea deal with Magoffin County prosecutors where she pled guilty to all charges in exchange for a 15-year sentence on the vehicular homicide charge, five years for the first-degree wanton endangerment count and 30 days for the DUI charge. The sentences will run concurrently.
She faced up to 25 years in prison.
Formal sentencing is scheduled for October 16.
